Veterinary Services
At Redstone Arsenal VTF, we proudly serve the pets of active duty, retired service members, reservists and national guard members along with their dependents. These services apply to service members living and off post. we provide a variety of services to include preventative veterinary services (wellness screenings, immunizations, de-worming, microchipping, etc.). When these services begin again, we will inform the community via multiple advertising avenues.
Redstone Arsenal VTF is not equipped to provide after-hours or emergency care. We strongly encourage all pet owners to establish a relationship with a local off-post veterinary clinic to ensure timely access to care in the event of an emergency or urgent health concern.
Appointments/Registration:
Services for privately owned animals are provided on an appointment only basis. Appointments can be made in person, over the phone or via email. All pets must be registered before an appointment can be made.
All animals maintained on the installation must be
registered at the VTF within 5 working days of moving into Family housing or acquiring the animal(s). The animal(s) must be current on vaccinations in accordance with Redstone Arsenal Regulation 40-1. Proof of rabies vaccination and microchip must be presented at the time of registration. On-Post Housing may limit the number and breed of pets that can live in on-post housing. Contact on-post housing for more information at
256-400-5940.
DoD veterinary facilities use a global electronic medical record system. This allows us to easily transfer your pet's recent medical records from one facility to another worldwide. Each facility does require their own registration. Any records from an off-post vet can be faxed or emailed so we can transcribe them onto your pet's file.
Health Certificates
Health certificates are required for some interstate and all international travel. If you are traveling by airline, please note that health certificates are only valid for 10 days from the date of issuance. An in-clinic physical examination of your pet is required at the time the health certificate is issued. International and domestic travel regulations can be confusing and vary by country and state. All pet travel regulations per interstate and international travel can be located on the USDA APHIS Pet Travel website https://www.aphis.usda.gov/pet-travel.
All health certificates performed at the Redstone Arsenal VTF are endorsed by a military veterinarian. However, there is currently no full-time military veterinarian stationed at Redstone Arsenal. A military veterinarian comes to the clinic frequently each month. Please contact us as soon as you know your travel plans, including your departure date, so we can determine if the health certificate examination can be coordinated with the military veterinarians scheduled clinic dates. If scheduling with our military veterinarian is not possible, we also recommend contacting the following nearby military veterinary clinics that can provide this service: Fort Benning VETCEN, Fort Campbell VETCEN, Fort Knox Veterinary Treatment Facility and Maxwell Air Force Base Veterinary Clinic.
