Redstone Arsenal Veterinary Treatment Facility (VTF)

• Available Services: Preventive care (wellness screenings, immunizations, de-worming, microchipping), sick-call appointments supported by on-site diagnostics (cytology, X-rays, fecal/urine tests, and bloodwork), as well as compassionate end-of-life care and euthanasia services.
• Current Limitations: We are not performing surgeries or dental procedures currently. We will update the community via multiple advertising avenues when these services resume.
• Emergency Care: We are not equipped for emergency or after-hours care. We strongly encourage establishing a relationship with a local, off-post veterinary provider to ensure timely access to care for urgent and emergency medical needs.

Registration & Appointments:

• To Book: Appointments can be made in person, by phone, or via email. All pets must be registered before scheduling.
• On-Post Housing Rules: Pets must be registered at the VTF within 5 working days of moving into Family housing or acquiring the animal.
  • You must present proof of a microchip and current vaccinations in accordance with Redstone Arsenal Regulation 40-1 (including rabies).
  • You can download the VTF Registration Form ahead of time to streamline the process.
  • Note: On-post housing has specific pet breed and quantity limit restrictions. For specific housing questions, please contact housing management directly at 256-400-5940.
• Global Medical Records: Because we use a global military electronic health record system, transferring your pet's recent medical history between DoD clinics worldwide is seamless. If you have medical records from a civilian, off-post clinic, please email them to us so we can transcribe them into your pet's official file before your appointment.

Health Certificates

We are eager to help you prepare your pet for travel! Because state and international regulations change frequently, please verify your specific destination requirements on the official USDA APHIS Pet Travel Website.
Critical Travel Timelines
Please factor these timelines into your PCS or personal travel planning:

• Pre-Travel Review: Your pet must be registered with our clinic. Submit your completed Registration Forms, Health Certificate Processing Form and requested documents (previous and current rabies certificate, current vaccine documents, pet microchip number/implanted date) at least 20 days prior to departure to avoid scheduling issues.
• Domestic Travel: Health certificates are valid for 30 days if driving, or 10 days if flying non-commercially.
• International Travel: Certificates (including Hawaii, Guam, and Puerto Rico) must be completed and signed within 10 days of travel for non-commercial flights.

Getting Your Health Certificate
Our veterinarians are USDA-accredited and perform health certificate examinations and provide health certificates, but endorsement authorities differ:

• Domestic (Interstate) Travel: Both military and civilian veterinarians can conduct the exam and provide completed documentation to you, same day as your appointment.
• International Travel: Only military veterinarians can endorse and provide documentation on the same day (for select countries). The civilian veterinarian CANNOT endorse international health certificates.
• VEHCS Processing: For certain international destinations where our military veterinarians do not have direct authority to endorse, the completed exam and pet documents must be submitted through the Veterinary Export Health Certification Service (VEHCS) for endorsement by the USDA Animal Plant Health Inspection Service. This is always the process for international health certificates issued by an accredited civilian veterinarian.

Scheduling & Alternate Clinics
This is not our military veterinarians, primary duty location but they visit monthly.  If you would like them to perform your pet’s health certificate exam, contact us as soon as you have your departure date to see if we can coordinate your appointment with their scheduled clinic dates.
